INTRODUCTION

The CAGE questionnaire is commonly used clinically as a screening tool for potential problems with alcohol use.1 The questions should be asked as part of the general history or in the course of a routine visit and should not be preceded by any questions about alcohol use, as this may decrease sensitivity.2

A total score of 2 or greater is considered clinically significant for the identification of alcohol overuse.
