In addition to knowing research design principles, you must also understand the many other statistical methods that researchers use to generalize their findings (see Chapter 7). Understanding these methods is critical for you to apply those findings to your practice. Beyond this, you also need to understand methods that are used when "traditional" research is not practical or ethical and how these large, "uncontrolled" studies can also contribute to evidence-based practice (see Chapter 8).
